Steve Clemons, at “The Washington Note” reports that a source has informed him that Barbara Bush is mad at the whackos inhabiting her sons administration and plans to swing into action.

Well now isn't that "W"'s problem? Surronded by women who take care of him. Waaaaaa, stop being mean to my boy - the PRESIDENT of the US! I keep thinking someone will reach the President and give him the facts of life as to what people are really thinking, but instead - according to the article - Mama is going to take care of her little boy and fix things.

I think you’ve got it right. The ever adolescent Bush is pretty pathetic. He has issues, as they say; and my guess is they relate to his mother. Reports I’ve read is that she pretty much raised the kids while Bush Sr. was busy kissing every political butt he could find as he climbed the political ladder. Bush Jr. calls Rice, Hughes et al his “mother hens”.
A person who works with fetal alcohol syndrome kids claims they all have a commonality in an identifiable look of their eyes. She claims this look is evident in Bush the younger. ........So perhaps his problem stemming from his mother is multifaceted, more complicated? Sounds like a good subject for a book.

From the FAS homepage; "Individuals with FAS have difficulties with learning, attention, memory, and problem solving." Hard to argue with that as a definition of Bush the younger. If true, it gives a whole new meaning to that phrase - anyone can become President in America.

I think Bush as a presidential candidate, like Reagan, was just a vehicle for the power play of others. The grits act sold well to the public. I think Clinton used the grits routine as well, though Clinton understands the big picture whereas Bush has no clue.
I read another report today that says Bush and his staff have closed Cheney out of policy development. Though, given the fact that as chief of transition Cheney sprinkled his loyalists throughout the administration, particularly the Depts. of State and Defense and NSA, I doubt that Cheney's control can be diminished. He's been primarily a behind the scene guy anyway.
To suggest that Cheney's control can not be diminished, suggest that Barbara has no influence with her boy. If Barbara is angry, who more deserving of that anger than Cheney?
I still think that Bush will be influenced by someone he trust - beside that truckload of dangerous neocons - and heads will fall. the report you read that suggest that Cheney is being "closed" out of "policy developement", hints that Cheney may be on the way out. That is something I mentioned here previously and was said not because of some insight, but rather because it makes so much sense. But then that gets us back around to Bush' incompetance.

What I am suggesting is that Cheney, as chief of transition and commander in fact, has established such a network of neofascist loyalists throughout the administration that he will be able to continue to run the show regardless of Bush's or his mommy's wishes. It's pretty clear that Bush has no control over the Pentagon, for instance, as evidenced by the White House's expressed surprise that the Pentagon has Iraqi "journalists" on the payroll to present Pentagon propaganda under their bylines. Additionally, before Powell moved on and Rice moved to State, Cheney "cabal", as Wilkerson calls it, was able to deal both Powell and Rice out of the action and minimize their influence, though it seems to me that's Rice's major function, even now, is to act as one of Bush's "mother hens."
Bush can't fire Cheney, as he was elected the same as Bush. Bush could ask him to resign, but I don't see Cheney agreeing to. It seems to me that the only way for Bush to wrest control from Cheney is to fire so many "senior" administration officials that he would be left with little top management. He could bring "Bush family custodian" James Baker in as chief of staff to clean house and bring in his dad's crew; but, from what I've read, it seems as though junior has burned the bridges to his daddy's crew.
