Bolivians Reject U. S. Neoliberal Domination

It appears that Bolivians have voted to reject U. S. domination and elected Latin America’s first president of indigenous descent. Evo “Morales, 46, a coca farmer and Aymara Indian,” has apparently been elected Bolivia’s new president. To his credit, Morales’ opponent, “Jose Quiroga, a former president who was backed by Bolivia's business elite”, has graciously conceded defeat, congratulated Morales, and called for national unity.

Bolivia joins an increasing number of Latin American nations that are rejecting U. S. promoted "neoliberal" policies that assure U. S. domination of their economies.

Bush would have already attacked Boliva in the name of national security (Constitution, that - "only a piece of paper" - be damned)- except they have no oil.

It is sad that American's are not rioting in the streets as this president trashes our guaranteed freedoms. Where the hell are the republicans? Even they should be demanding an explanation.

arggg!

Might be a stretch to tie Bolivia to unlawful wiretaping - but heck, I'm mad.

Bolivia actually has significant natural gas reserves and the disposition of those reserves, whether to maintain under state control or contract their exploitation to multi-nationals, has been an impetus behind the Morales victory. The government of Bolivia also contracted with Bechtel to manage a water distribution system serving hundreds of thousands of consumers and popular protests caused Bechtel to pull out.

I found this Venezuelan cooperative initiative interesting http://www.venezuelanalysis.com/articles.php?artno=1631

As for Americans not being up in arms over Bush's desecration of the Constitution, as long as they're just going after Muslims it's OK.

First They Came for the Jews

First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.
