Here is a garden bed I made today and into which I transplanted the little lettuce plants. Armando, my 88 year old Cuban neighbor, brought me some old coffee with which to fertilize the starts.

Coffee works well. Light beer mixed with soap also fertilizes lettuce and keeps bugs away.
