New Years Eve in Merida

New Years eve here included lots of fireworks. When I say lots I mean more than I have ever heard; and when I say fireworks I mean ordnance, not the “safe and sane” stuff permitted in the nanny nation.

There were those who jumped the gun, but beginning at midnight the discharges began and continued unabated for about a half an hour when it began to taper off. The description that immediately came to mind was rolling thunder, as, in the aggregate from all over the city, the explosions were continuous. There is still an occasional report this morning at 6:00.

Poor little Rusty. Shortly after midnight, having been awakened by the noise, I went downstairs for a drink of water. When I opened the bedroom door at the head of the stairs, there was Dusty huddled against door looking very worried. This morning he’s back to his normal self.

From one Screamin Joe Hawkins to another, there appears to be a typo in your Blog titled "New Years Eve in Merida". I'm not even going to tell you which word it is, but if you want to remain on the team, let's pay more attention guy :-)

Also, we're having a party on Jan. 14th to celebrate an event that originates from Dec. 3rd. So, if you figure out who this is, we hope to see you then. If not in person, definitely in spirit.

Have a great day, wonderful evening and an adventurous life

Thanks for following the blog and for your comments.

My but aren’t we being mysterious though. An unidentified typo, no explanation of the significance of December 3, and no indication of where the party is.

I'm guessing the typo you refer to is the 'a' before half. It should probably be an 'an', as it precede a word beginning in ‘h’. I actually considered whether it should be ‘a’ or ‘an’ when composing the post. It seemed to me to read better with an ’a’.

Please let me know.

December 3rd? Are you celebrating Illinois’ admittance to the union? The Roman festival of Bona Dea? The Berkley Free Speech Movement? Katrina Witts birthday? You got me.

I must admit your Sreamin Joe Hawkins reference escapes me. Unless it’s because I am amongst the shrill.

Is it Screamin Joe or Screamin Jay?

Okay, you got me on the "Joe"/"Jay" thing. So, I'm going to forgive your typo, although it's not the a/an between half and hour. I believe you could just leave that totally out (i.e. a half hour). There was a different typo -- I'm going to remain mysterious, just my nature :-).

As far as Screamin Jay escaping your memory, I'm saddened. Perhaps you were a little more enebriated that night than I thought.

CELEBRATE -- let's do them all. Ask your friends, perhaps one of them knows what this is all about. Hope you find out soon, it's going to be one hell of a party!!!!!!! You will be missed.

OK, I think I've got it. I left "the" between "against" and "door". Leave it up to an editor type like you to catch such things. I do, however, appreciate all corrections.

I'm sure I was inebriated when the Screaming Jay Hawkins thing came up but your latest comment did jog my memory a bit, but I'm still not sure if it came up on the Cuba trip or on Arcadia RD.

As to December 3, I have no idea; but, since I will be unable to attend, I guess there's not much point in spending much time wondering.

Steve and Kitty got married on December 3.
They are celebrating on January 14

Well, as is obvious to everyone, I was completely off the mark on my Screaming Jay Hawkins recollection and completely off base on my guess of your identity as well. I can assure you that I was definitely inebriated when singing “I Put a Spell on You”.

Congratulations to you and your groom. I hope you'll be sure to let me know where you have registered your china and silver patterns.

And thanks to Life Long Harborite for providing me with the announcement of your nuptials, which is normally something done by the bride and groom, by the way.
